Finally, we could bring to you the inaugural edition of the ASEAN Journal of Economics, Management and Accounting (AJEMA). AJEMA is published by Malaysia-Indonesia International Conference on Economics, Management and Accounting (MIICEMA), an association of 26 universities in Indonesia and Malaysia. MIICEMA was established in 1993 and had conducted a series of annual conference continuously up to 13 times by 2012. However, most of the papers presented in the conferences are not published since the association has no journal to accommodate them. Due to this condition, in a pre-conference meeting hold in the University of Kebangsaan Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur in 2012, I proposed the development of a journal to publish the selected papers of the conference. The other objectives of this development are: to provide a forum for academicians, researchers and practitioners who are interested in discussing new knowledge, ideas and issues in the field of economics, management, business and accounting in the ASEAN region. For this purpose, we will expand our membership into other universities and research institutions in ASEAN region, not only in Malaysia and Indonesia.
Following the name of its publisher, MIICEMA, coverage of the journal is relatively broad. Due to this condition, the papers in the journal are classified into three categories: economics; management and business; and accounting. Hopefully, these will accommodate variation of expertise of our members.
The ASEAN Journal of Economics, Management and Accounting (AJEMA) is planned to be biannually published i.e., June and December. For this inaugural edition, June 2013, the papers were invited mostly from the editorial boards of the journal. This happened since our target is the journal can be launched and distributed in the 14th Annual Conference of MIICEMA 2013 which will be held in Bogor Agricultural University (Institut Pertanian Bogor), Bogor, Indonesia in October 9-10, 2013. In the future, the published papers will come from two sources: from open submissions and from papers which are selected from those presented in the annual conference.
I would like to thank to our friends of both MIICEMA members and non-members and also to the contributors of the papers who have supported us in developing this journal. By improving our networking, cooperation, and work harder, hopefully the journal will continuously and consistently ‘visiting’ you, our respected contributors and readers. Thank you.
